My art is inspired by the natural world and I am hopelessly in love with watercolors. I create botanical watercolors of all that grows in the garden. I enjoy the challenge of creating botanicals that are faithful to nature but expressed personally in watercolors.
Plein air painting in watercolor is another form of expressing the beauty of nature. and conveying a sense of place. Painting on site not only creates a painting, but also instills a memory. I find I can remember so much more about a place that I have painted: the smells, the time of day, and simply the time spent outside. I also periodically teach watercolor plein air painting workshops in Tuscany, Italy during the late summer.
My originals and prints are for sale. I also create illustration and design work for art licensing.
I am a certified in botanical painting through the Society of Botanical Artists - Distance Learning Program, in London, England. This program unleashed my love for botanical painting.
I have been a professor of illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia for the past 15 years where I teach Watercolor for the Botanical Illustrator, Watercolor for the Illustrator, Type and Image for the Illustrator, Illustrating the Edible and Digital Solutions for Illustrators. I am also a certified Adobe Expert in Photoshop and teach online courses. I enjoy inspiring young students to make their creative aspirations a reality.
I hold a BA in Art History, MA and an MFA Illustration. I have studied watercolors with Charles Reid, Robert Wade, and Joseph Zbukvic.
